We could not be more thrilled! Our last quarters collective donations $17,100, will fund The Family Weekend Food Project with Deep Well for just over six months!

After a family is vetted and approved for food assistance by the team at the Children’s Center they go on the Deep Well list as a Family Weekend Food recipient. These are working parents, trying hard to improve their family’s situation, who invest in a wonderful daycare center environment to keep their children safe and engaged while they’re working. Currently just under 100 families are served through this program, receiving their food bag every other Friday when they pick up their little ones at the daycare center. The Family bag includes a half gallon of milk, all the ingredients for a kid-friendly large meal, plus items like cereal, peanut butter and tuna for weekend snacks and light meals.

What a difference we can make in our community! Today we presented The Ella C. White Memorial Scholarship fund with $16,450! 
We are excited to help support their mission to help students remove a primary barrier that could easily hinder them from reaching their educational goals: the lack of financial assistance. 
The fund supports graduating seniors at Hilton Head Island High School. Each student who receives a scholarship meets guidelines of being in good academic standing and in need of financial aid for college. They are also eager, hard working and dedicated to building a successful future.

Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing nutritious meals for people in need on a temporary or long-term basis. They deliver noontime meals each day, Monday through Friday, including holidays … always with a smile. 

We are certainly smiling as we presented them with $15,800 in checks from our members!

We are thrilled to present the Children’s Relief Fund of Hilton Head $13,900! 

These funds will help provide therapy, equipment, summer programs and other group activities for disabled children in the Hilton Head Island area.

The Children’s Relief Fund recognizes that every person, no matter what their disability, has a place in our society. Thier goal is to provide the Special Needs Children in our area with the appropriate tools to live productive lives in our community. These very special children, like all other children, deserve their chance to shine!

The totally volunteer organization has been serving the special needs children in the low country since its inception in 1991. With the mission to benefit specific families’ needs as well as fund specialized therapeutic programs designed to advance physical, mental and emotional development.

Hospice Care of the Lowcountry

Our fourth quarter selected nonprofit was Hospice Care of the Lowcountry.  HCLC is a community-based 501(c)(3) organization that works to honor dignity and provide comfort for end-of-life patients and their families. Our total collective donation was $12,900. This money will be used for Cancer & Palliative Care patients on Hilton Head, as well as a Caregiver Relief Fund.  How wonderful that we 100+ Women Who Care can make a difference in one’s life journey.

Project SAFE
(Sewer Access For Everyone)

Our third quarter selected nonprofit was Project SAFE (Sewer Access For Everyone). "There's a problem on our island and it's time for those who can to come together to raise the money for those who cannot afford to make the connection". We were presented with this need in our community and the 100+ Women voted to give Project SAFE our collective donation of $10,500. This donation will enable families on Hilton Head Island to make the connection to the sewer line and our gift makes a tremendous difference in their lives.

PAFEN
(Pan African Family Empowerment Network)

Our second quarter selected nonprofit was PAFEN. (Pan African Family Empowerment Network). It is a nonprofit that works to redeem the Gullah properties. Our $11,200 donation was used to save the homeland of Hilton Head Island residents who have been unable to pay their back taxes due to circumstances life can bring. Without our donation, these individuals would face a bleak future, even possible homelessness. Our collective gift was the largest single donation PAFEN has ever received. These Gullah property redemptions on Hilton Head Island were viewed as an "unexpected blessing" by the families. We 100+ Women continue to make a difference in the lives of others!

The YANA Club of Hilton Head

Our first quarter selected nonprofit was The YANA Club of Hilton Head Island. YANA stands for "You Are Not Alone". The mission of this club is to provide a facility on Hilton Head Island where twelve-step groups can meet to encourage recovery growth and fellowship and to ensure a safe and secure environment for all attendees. These 12-Step Recovery programs include Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Adult Children of Alcoholics, and Young People in AA. Our generous contribution of $11,200 made quite an impact! Our collective donation enabled this organization to make repairs to the yard and surrounding area still devastated from Hurricane Matthew, to install a much-needed video security system as a deterrent to bad behavior, and to replace the ceiling. The generous hearts of 100+WWCHHI are certainly in evidence at YANA!

The Children's Center

Our fourth quarter collective donation was joyfully received by The Children's Center. Smiles all around!! Together, we collectively raised $12,600. Our community impact is making a difference! The Children's Center is a local nonprofit that provides quality childcare and a multicultural, bilingual early childhood education for working families. It is provided five days a week, year round, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The goal of The Children's Center is to provide a learning environment that enhances the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, and creative development of each child. Our donation will be used as scholarship for the tuition assistance program and our funds will also directly support materials, books, and supplies for the children to use in the classrooms. We have truly fulfilled our mission when we can help others fulfill theirs.

Memory Matters

The 100+ Women Who Care Hilton Head Island made an impact once again in their community. This time, they were at Memory Matters to present their third-quarter collective donation. This local not-for-profit center supports families living with dementia by providing active day programming for participants and offers related caregiver respite. The gift bag of checks given to Memory Matters totaled and enabled them to purchase all new furnishings and necessary equipment for the newly built room which houses the Connections Program. This program expressly serves people newly diagnosed with memory loss. Many of these participants are women in their 60's who are grappling with declining cognition.  

"We can really feel where our donation went" said Ann Tucker and Jackie Ryan, co-founding members of the 100+WWCHHI chapter, as they "road tested" one of the many antimicrobial vinyl chairs purchased. Two other members, Lisa Medford and Barbara Popovsky, joined Sheila Strand, Executive Director of Memory Matters and Sarah Coffin, Board President for the gift bag presentation and tour of the facility on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. Thanks to the 100+Women Who Care Hilton Head Island, the people dealing with this difficult diagnosis have benefitted enormously.
